Take on a Short Term Challenge
Is it time for you to take on a short term challenge? Would you benefit from a little boost of productivity or even more scheduled downtime? Using a short term challenge can be a great way to turn a desired habit into an actual habit. It’s also a structured way to learn a new skill.
I’m currently taking two short term challenges that I wanted to share with you. The first is a 30 day meditation challenge. For a few months my mediation practice went from daily to spotty because of some changes to my normal routine. It was time for me to reinvigorate my practice and I found the perfect app to help me do it, for free! It’s called 1 Giant Mind. I highly recommend it if you are new to meditation or need that extra structure to make mediation a daily practice (oh and don’t forget to get my free meditation tool kit by clicking here).
My second challenge is a bit shorter, but will likely prove more challenging for me than 30 days of meditation, it’s a 5 day challenge called Just Hit Record with Casey Erin Wood. I’m working on incorporating more videos into my group coaching offerings and I’ve been facing both technical and internal roadblocks to making this happen. As I knew it would, my amazing network of ambitious friends and colleges shared this free challenge with me and I can’t wait to get started (Thank you Jamee Tenzer!).
While I’ve chosen 30 and 5 day challenges I’ll be working on those challenges with 4 day wins in mind. Believe it or not, it’s possible to make an impact on your skills and behavior in as little as 4 days. I learned about this technique and the research behind it in Martha Beck’s book The Four-Day Win. The premise is that if you break your goal into 4 day mini-wins your challenge becomes less overwhelming. You feel the rewards of progress more quickly and you are more likely to tell yourself “I can do this. It’s only 4 days!”
Now it’s time for you to take a short term challenge. What have you been working on, but just can’t seem to nail down? Have you tried searching online for a challenge or group that might motivate you to stay focused for a concentrated amount of time?
I would love to hear what you are working on in the comments below.
Is there a short term challenge that you’re looking for? Putting it out there always helps make your goals more clear and it’s a great way to learn more about the challenge you’re facing. Remember you’re likely not the only one with that problem and other people might have the perfect solution to share with you!
