What are the four desires?
The Four Desires is the title of a book written by ParaYoga© Founder, Rod Stryker. You may not have heard of the book before, but I can bet that you have at one time or another considered your own purpose in life.
Through principles Rod learned from his in-depth study of ancient yogic texts and his own yoga practice, he organized exercises and introspective practices to deliver a methodology for finding your unique purpose and aligning your desires and goals with that greater purpose.
The title, The Four Desires, speaks to the four categories of desire that we have a need to fulfill.
The Four Desires According to Ancient Yogic Tradition
Dharma: the desire to fulfill our own unique purpose in the world
Artha: the desire for the material means to prosper
Kama: the desire for beauty, love and pleasure
Moksha: the desire for freedom and spiritual fulfillment
The book guides you to a better understanding of which desires are being driven from within you and will help you become the person you were meant to be. It provides exercises to uncover self-defeating beliefs, as well as strengthen your ability to meet challenges and embrace change.
While the book, workbook and accompanying CD set will certainly get you on your way to sharing your unique gifts with the world, the process itself is not a quick fix. It requires patience, persistence and practice.
I began working with The Four Desires process in 2008. Since then my life has evolved in a positive and powerful direction. I have personally experienced the benefits of this work and seen it empower others to become the best versions of themselves.
I am honored and excited that I have been personally selected by Rod to be part of a very special training group, The Four Desires Trainers certification and apprenticeship program. I, along with several other specially selected trainees, will be assisting Rod and personally mentoring participants at the Four Desires weekend workshops in 2016.
I strongly encourage those who are seeking a sense of clarity and fulfillment in their lives to consider a live Four Desires training. If attending a live event isn’t possible begin by reading the book (Please note, I will receive a small commission when you use the Amazon link at the top of this post to purchase the book).
It’s important to understand that you do not need experience in yoga to do the work and reap the benefits of this process. The book and live workshops are not designed to teach you yoga postures. Instead you learn how to cultivate and connect to your own source of fulfillment.
You learn how to become more of who you are meant to be and how your unique purpose in the world allows you to contribute in a way that brings joy to you and others.
